An old, southern porch, figures in a field or on a favorite trail, fresh-cut flowers, family......Seemingly simple subject matter, yet when you view Donna's works, they are deeply expressive; echoing not only what she has seen, but also what she has felt.
Her interest in art was first sparked by a private art teacher when she was eight years old. She also spent time in her aunt's studio as a young girl in Mississippi. Growing up her father, an artist himself, often times brought her attention to the beauty of clouds, light, and shadows.
Majoring in Fine Arts, she attended Virginia Intermont College, UGA, the National Acaemy of Fine Art (New York City, NY), and Art Student's League of New York. Later, while raising her children, she continued courses and work-shops at Douglas Community College where she also taught an adult education class in watercolor there. She also took courses at Seattle Central Community College and School of Visual Concepts (Seattle, WA) and Kirkland Art League (Kirkland, WA).
Donna's work incorporates her extensive background in art along with the natural beauty of her surroundings and her love of people-watching. She has painted on paper, canvas and terracotta using a variety of mediums including watercolor, India Ink, acrylic, and oil.
In recent years Donna focused on commissions and portraits for friends and associates. Since she has begun exhibiting, she has expanded her subject matter, freeing herself up to express even more to the viewer.
Her works have been in juried shows in Bellevue, Kirkland, Kenmore, and Edmonds, WA. She has displayed her artwork at Isis Gallery, Seattle, WA (painted clay pots), A Garden of Distiction (Seattle, WA), Urban Pottery (Seattle, WA), Colophon Cafe, Joyce Russel's Clay works, and Otherside Gallery (Bellingham, WA). She has also been featured in the following galleries: Lakeshore (Kirkland, WA), Northwest Discovery (Bellevue, WA), and currently can be seen in Meloy, Inc. in Bellingham, WA.
